它既是表面的圍合材料,塑造特有的質感和效果;
G-Code,
The Deep Blue is a Knowledge Exchange projectbased on the outcomes of the Digital Practice InternationalSummer Program at Department of Architecture,The University of Hong Kong (HKU). Led by professors ofHKU, this project integrated materialization with digitalcomputation and fabrication. It attracted sponsors fromlocal architectural and engineering companies, as wellas manufacturers and material suppliers. The main objectives are to raise envrionmentalawareness by transforming mundane recycled materialsinto an inspiring structure, to explore digital designand making with ordinarory fabrication methods in PRDChina, and to promote Hong Kong as one of the worldclasscities for design innovation. The design team synthesized the visual effect of therecycled High Density Polythylene Drums (HDPE) withits structural and connecting capabilities. Each HDPEtransforms radically into flower alike at the top withoutlosing the structural integrity at the bottom through thevariouse cuts according to the overlaped surface areaconnected to the adjacent barrels, which also determinesthe fixing point of the internal timber disks as thestiffeners. The fabrication process integrated parametricgeneration of the G-code for controling a 3 axisesCNC machine. A strategic construction sequence hadto be followed in order to minimize the accumulatingdeflection in the global scale. This design-and-built project was first displayed inone of the most populated pathway in HKU, and thenwas reassembled in Discovery Park Shopping Centre asa permanent structure for various public events.
